Capacity building workshop in the Republic of Moldova

‘The involvement of local communities in the planning and implementation of safeguarding measures for intangible cultural heritage’

 

The Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Culture Heritage in South-Eastern Europe under the auspices of UNESCO organizes a capacity building workshop on the topic „The involvement of local communities in the planning and implementation of safeguarding measures for intangible cultural heritage”, which will be held in Chișinău, Republic of Moldova, from 3 to 6th June 2024.

The workshop is a joint initiative of the Regional Centre Sofia together with the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Moldova, the National Museum of Ethnography and Natural History and USAID Moldova.

The four-day training programme includes an overview of UNESCO’s main documents and key concepts such as the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2003) and Operational directives, Ethical Principles, Overall Results Framework and more. However, the main part will be focused on developing step-by-step safeguarding plans for ICH elements with the involvement of local communities. In addition, there will be a practical group work and field trip to “Rustic Art” Craftsmanship Centre in the district of Orhei, where the participants will have the opportunity to document element of intangible cultural heritage and afterward, to develop a safeguarding plan for it.

Facilitators of the training are Mr. Andrei Prohin and Ms. Ioana Baskerville, UNESCO facilitators.
