Successfully held meeting of category 2 centres active in the field of intangible cultural heritage in Sozopol

From 24 to 26 July, the Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe and UNESCO organized for the first time a global meeting of category 2 centres active in the field of intangible cultural heritage at Sozopol, Bulgaria.

Leading specialists from UNESCO Headquarters, the Bureau of Strategic Planning and Regional offices of UNESCO in Venice, Bangkok and Havana with the representatives of all category 2 regional centres for intangible cultural heritage in the world- Republic of Korea, Japan, China, Peru and Iran and their colleagues from Bulgaria, discussed the opportunities for strengthening partnerships between category 2 centres.

The meeting was an excellent opportunity for the participants to take stock of the recent developments in the life of the Convention 2003 and the larger trends underway at UNESCO concerning category 2 centres, to examine the strategy of UNESCO for the period 2014-2018 and the way forward for its implementation in the activities of category 2 centres, also the global capacity building strategy of UNESCO and the results-based management.

During the meeting, the redesigned webpage for category 2 centres in intangible cultural heritage was presented with a number of new relevant documents enriched.
