Second meeting of category 2 centres active in the field of intangible cultural heritage in Baku, Azerbaijan

The second meeting of category 2 centres active in the field of intangible cultural heritage took place in Baku, Azerbaijan during the eighth session of the Intergovernmental Committee on December, 1-8.

The opening of the meeting was on December 4 and all its sessions were held during the afternoon sessions of the Committee.

At the invitation of the Secretary of UNESCO, the meeting was organized and was moderated by the representatives of the category 2 centres in Bulgaria and the Islamic Republic of Iran. Four presentations revealed common issues and remedies in the work of category 2 centres as it follows:

  1. Presentation of the Regional centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in West and Central Asia in Tehran (Islamic Republic of Iran) and its activities;
  2. General aspects in the common work of category 2 centres for ICH by Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe under the auspices of UNESCO in Sofia (Bulgaria);
  3. Issues in the procedure of the establishment of category 2 centre by the Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Africa;
  4. Renewal assessment procedure of category 2 centres by CRESPIAL (Peru) after its 6 years existance;

Common issues were revealed during the sessions relating to the need of expanding the capacities in the field of ICH below the Global capacity-building strategy of UNESCO, networking between the category 2 centres and between the centres and the Secretary of UNESCO.
