The first meeting of university representatives in the member states of the Regional Centre, during which a University Network for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage will be created, will take place in the beginning of June this year. The aim is for Southeast European universities to share their experience and good practices in teaching and learning all aspects of intangible cultural heritage and above all, its preservation in the dynamically changing world. Discussions and debates during the first meeting will be based on the results of a previously sent questionnaire to universities in the region that provide specific information on the establishment and operation of curricula in higher education institutions in accordance with their national context. Participants in the meeting will also refer to UNESCO’s conclusions as a crucial role for universities in the training of future national and international leaders to take decisions on the preservation of intangible cultural heritage. It will also be discussed that most universities focus on teaching tangible cultural heritage as opposed to intangible, which is currently part of a variety of disciplines such as anthropology, environment, tourism, etc., rather than a separate university program.
The agenda will be available soon!
