The Regional Centre Sofia exhibition “A Journey through the Living Heritage. The Intangible Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe” visits Plovdiv this year in multiple special occasions – the 50th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention, concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural Heritage, the International World Heritage Day, the 45th International Museum Day and the 1st Anniversary since the opening of the Bishop’s Basilica of Philippopolis.
The official event is organized on the initiative of the Municipality of Plovdiv and the Municipal Institute “Ancient Plovdiv” in partnership with the Regional Centre for the Safeguarding of Intangible Cultural Heritage in South-Eastern Europe under the auspices of UNESCO and the National Commission of the Republic of Bulgaria for UNESCO.
The exhibition “A journey through the living heritage” presents a collection of authentic and valuable ethnographical photographs from the countries in the region and the audience can experience a cultural journey across their living traditions. Many of the photographed customs and practices are a result of the encounters of different cultures in distant historical times. The exposition consists of 18 panels, presenting two elements from the intangible cultural heritage of each country, member of the Regional Centrе Sofia.
The official opening is on April 18, 2022 – the International Day of World Cultural Heritage, from 6 pm in the Bishop’s Basilica of Philippopolis. The exhibition can be visited until May 18, 2022 – The International Museum Day.[:]
