‘Teaching and Learning with Living Heritage’ was successfully held

The hybrid training ‘Teaching and Learning with Living Heritage’, designed for primary and secondary school teachers in Greece, was successfully completed. It was held online and at the Museum of Modern Greek Culture in Athens.

The three-day online sessions included a presentation of the main underlying concepts of the 2003 Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage, examination of the relationship between living heritage and sustainable development, and its integration into the national educational program. Discussions were focused on the weaknesses and opportunities of the educational program, supported by concrete examples and materials. The third day of the training was dedicated to the six-step methodology presented in the Teachers’ Manual for Teaching and Learning with Living Heritage (UNESCO-EU). The methodology was demonstrated through practical examples, including the Rebetiko project, as well as case studies from nine Greek schools that showed how elements of ICH can be integrated into teaching scenarios.
The event is organised by the Regional Centre Sofia – UNESCO and the Directorate for Modern Cultural Heritage of the Greek Ministry of Culture.
